Free Internet Access "at-risk" in Missouri public libraries!
The Facts:
- Governor Jay Nixon has vetoed ALL
state funding for the REAL (Remote Electronic Access for Libraries)
program that helps libraries pay for their strong Internet
connections.
- Not just reduced-but every penny of it has been cut due to State budgeting issues.
- And ALL
State Aid funding (which helps us to provide additional Library
Materials and Services to our community) is being completely withheld
too!
- A total loss to the St. Clair County Library, YOUR library, for fiscal year 2015 will be $30,040.95!!
Without these Funds:
- Our costs for using the Internet will more than TRIPLE, which has forced us to cancel our much needed Internet speed upgrade!
What YOU can do:
- If
you value free Internet access in public libraries and library
services, please contact the Governor's office and your Legislators to
let them know you want the REAL program funding and State Aid monies
restored to Missouri Public Libraries!
- The Governor's office contact information is available at:
- Contact
your State Representative and ask for their help in urging the Governor
to release funds. The contact information is available at:
